Frightening footage has emerged of a venomous red-bellied black snake being removed from underneath a car.

The snake was found curled around the fuel tank of a Toyota after the owner left a local pub in Revesby, south-west Sydney.

Police and wildlife organisation WILD Conservation spent three hours trying to lure the snake out from under the vehicle.

A mobile mechanic helped jack up the car and unbolt the fuel tank, allowing a snake catcher better access.

The snake catcher, Kane Durrant, then laid underneath the car and attempted to pry the reptile out with a hooked metal rod.

‘I’ve just got to manipulate him out, he’ll be alright’, he said to an onlooker.

He then grabbed the snake with both hands and pulled, warning bystanders to stay clear of the car as the snake could ‘lash out now that it’s been grabbed’.

‘That’s some scary s**t, well done’, one wrote.

Many viewers also praised the snake catcher for his efforts.

‘Wow such great persistence, I bet you called that snake a few names’, one wrote.

‘Well done! A cold beer from the pub would be appropriate,’ another said.
