Pimlico Plumbers boss Charlie Mullins’ mansion hits the market for £4.75million

Pimlico Plumbers’ multi-millionaire boss Charlie Mullins has divorced his second wife, just four years after tying the knot in Las Vegas.

Sources close to the businessman, 68, who is worth around £70 million and paid himself a £6m bonus last year, told MailOnline the split between him and Julie, 48, was finalised in December.

It comes as Mr Mullins has put his marble-floored, six-bed Essex mansion on the market for £4.75 million – though a spokesman for the entrepreneur insists the proposed sale is not a ‘direct result of the divorce’.

The plumbing boss married his second wife, who works as Pimlico’s operations manager, in the United States in 2016, and the couple were frequently seen together at functions for the Conservative Party – to which he has previously donated – posing for photos with the likes of Boris Johnson and Priti Patel.

Mr Mullins has often been in the headlines in recent times for his outspoken views on Brexit, coronavirus, the furlough scheme and working from home.

However, he hasn’t spoken openly about either the end of his 40-year marriage to first wife, Lynda – a split which is said to have cost the father-of-four some £12m – or his more recent divorce from Julie.

Now it has also been confirmed he’s looking to sell his property in Hutton Mount near Brentwood – home to a number of bankers and City bigwigs.

Mr Mullins said: ‘It’s been said that ‘the only way is Essex’ but Essex wasn’t for me.

‘Don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely house and I’ve spend well over a million quid on it so whoever is lucky enough to buy it is getting a right touch!’

It comes barely 18 months after he landed himself in hot water with his wealthy neighbours on the leafy private estate – by flooding the area with his firm’s vehicles.

Residents claimed he ‘brought down the tone of the area’ by allowing Pimlico Plumbers vans to be parked on the street.

Last month, Mr Mullins said he was looking at introducing a ‘no jab, no job’ policy, requiring all his workers to be vaccinated against coronavirus.

Mr Mullins said he has been talking to his lawyers about making the vaccine mandatory for all new hires within a few months, and that the firm is also exploring how it might modify existing staff contracts, though he insisted no one would be forced to receive a vaccine or be fired over the issue.

Meanwhile, the plumbing boss was blasted just before Christmas when he said he would prefer a ‘rerun’ of the pandemic over Brexit.

He claimed leaving the EU will cause more ‘lasting damage’ than the health crisis and said the prospect of no trade deal was ‘one disaster too far’.

The entrepreneur, who runs one of Britain’s biggest independent plumbing firms, was also criticised last summer after saying those who were still working from home were ‘selfish’ and ‘don’t care about the economy’.

Mr Mullins had hit headlines after firing around 30 staff when they refused to return to work, following the end of his company’s use of the Government furlough scheme.

Appearing on This Morning, he said that the scheme promotes a ‘benefits culture’ and that ‘everyone needs to pull their weight’ to boost the economy.

Now, Mr Mullins is looking to sell his luxurious Essex mansion, with the property listing saying the current owners ‘have carried out an extensive refurbishment during their ownership’, creating ‘a truly spectacular family home’.

At the front of the mansion, a large block paved driveway sits behind two electronically operated gates, and upon entering the hallway, a galleried landing up to the first floor provides access to a study, living room, cinema room and downstairs toilet, as well as an open planned kitchen, dining and family room.

This then leads to a utility room and through to the integral garage, which has been transformed into a games room.

On the first floor, the master suite benefits from two walk in wardrobes – both could be converted into bedrooms – and a master bathroom. There are three further bedrooms on this level all of which have en-suite bathrooms.

The rear garden can be accessed from all of the rooms at the back of the property, and stretches nearly 260ft in length, with mature trees, shrubs, flower beds and extensive lawned areas.

The property also benefits from strong transport links, with Shenfield main line railway station – less than 30 minutes from London’s Liverpool Street – a short walk away, with the M25 motorway also in the vicinity.

Russell Quirk, estate agent and property expert at Keller Williams, told MailOnline: ‘This was previously described as Mr Mullins’ ‘weekend home’ when he bought it a couple of years ago and he has since spent a fair bit of money renovating the property.

‘He has ramped up the price by £850,000 since he bought it, which was the record purchase for a house in Hutton Mount.’
