  • WA Premier Mark McGowan has confirmed lockdown will be extended
  • Lockdown expected to be finally lifted at 6pm on Friday, February 4 local time
  • State also enduring ongoing bushfires threatening communities in Perth’s east

Paranoid Western Australia premier Mark McGowan has confirmed the lockdown in his state won’t be lifted until at least 6pm on Friday.

The announcement comes despite despite no new coronavirus cases locally across the past four days.

The state is also battling a number of devastating bushfires threatening a number of communities in Perth’s east.

McGowan also said on Wednesday said the full lockdown would end if WA continued to record zero cases.

‘I want the WA community to understand that if we do continue on a zero streak through to Friday, the full lockdown will end,’ he said.

‘However, like we have seen in other states, some form of restrictions will be necessary for the following week or so.

‘Based on health advice, we know this virus can linger, so even though we could potentially have no community transmission come Friday, it does not mean we are 100 per cent in the clear.’
