Rare great white sighting in Queensland waters as predator shark swims up beside fishing charter

A great white shark has given fishermen aboard a charter boat a shock by sidling up to their vessel in the seas off Surfers Paradise.
The 2.5-metre shark was spotted curiously inspecting the boat that was about 8km off the coast of Broadbeach on Sunday.
It was a rare sighting great white shark sighting in Queensland waters, as they they usually live in colder waters further south.

Avenger Fishing Charters’ Shannon Green said they had just begun fishing when the shark appeared.
‘Everyone on the boat was pretty excited to see it,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘It was only 2.5 metres, they can grow up to 20 feet (six metres),’ he said.
Mr Green said the fishing charter encounters sharks ‘quite often’ but this was the first time he had come across a great white.

‘Bull sharks, Hammerhead sharks… they can be a pest when we’re fishing,’ he said.
‘I’d never seen a great white before, I called some of the other guys and they’d only seen a couple,’ he said.
The shark appeared quite relaxed as it swam up to the boat.
‘It was fine, it didn’t look like it was feeding,’ Mr Green said.

‘We pulled up and were fishing and saw the shark fin come up, it started going around the boat a bit,’ Mr Green told 9News.
‘We actually got a good look at it, he was just curious, just taking a look at us.’
