Fiance of teacher who had sex with her student is accused of rape

The fiancé of a geography teacher who admitted to having sex with her 14-year-old student has vowed ‘never to leave’ her – just hours before appearing in court accused of raping a teenager he met on Snapchat.

Mohammed Krayem, 22, stunned his friends by insisting he would stick by his fiancee Monica Elizabeth Young, 24, after she pleaded guilty to three charges of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent with a teenage pupil.

But in a shock twist, Krayem fronted Bankstown Local Court on Thursday facing his own sexual assault charges.

The 22-year-old was charged with sexual intercourse without consent following an alleged incident in a carpark in Sydney’s western suburbs last year, 7 News reported.

Krayem met the 19-year-old alleged victim on Snapchat in June last year, before meeting up in the carpark of Chullora Marketplace on August 24, the court heard.

Police allege Krayem was naked in his car while he waited for the woman to arrive.

The pair engaged in some consensual sexual acts, but police allege the intercourse that followed was not.

Krayem’s fiancée Young was in jail at the time of the alleged rape as her court case dragged on. She is now out on strict bail awaiting her sentencing hearing in June.

When leaving court on Thursday, Krayem repeatedly told reporters ‘no comment’ when questioned about the charges.

But the night before, Krayem insisted Young would ‘always have my full support’.

‘You never leave your loved ones, especially through a tough time,’ he told Daily Mail Australia when asked if he was still together with his on-again, off-again partner.

A source close to Krayem also claimed the couple were ‘100 per cent’ back together, pointing toward his affectionate posts of support about Young three weeks ago as evidence.

Late last month Krayem posted a ‘message to the haters’ on his Facebook page dedicated to Young.

He uploaded a video of himself kissing Young on the cheek and captioned it as ‘my always and forever’, before posting a separate picture of Young decorated with a love heart.

Krayem had put on a united front with Young since she was charged in July last year, however, the couple split a few months back before reigniting flames.

‘I’m fine,’ he told Daily Mail Australia at the time. ‘I’ll be sticking beside her no matter the outcome. I’ll always be beside her.’

During her two last appearances at the NSW District Court, Young went without her engagement ring and had been supported by family.

Young and Krayem were childhood sweethearts.

They were due to be married before she was arrested on 12 charges relating to engaging in a sexual relationship with a child.

She maintained her innocence right up until the last minute, when her legal counsel approached the Director of Public Prosecutions and indicated she would be willing to plead guilty to three of the charges.

Her victim and another teenage boy were due to pre-record their evidence ahead of her five day trial beginning on September 21.

However, the DPP indicted Young solely on the three counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child – meaning her victim was no longer required to testify.

Young’s barrister, former top prosecutor Margaret Cunneen SC, told the court her client was ‘very anxious to avoid a situation where [the victim] had to endure another weekend of concern about having to do this [give evidence]’.

‘My instruction from Ms Young is to put him out of his misery as soon as possible,’ she said.

Young stood before Judge Kate Traill in April and meekly pleaded guilty to having sex with her teenage student on three separate occasions in Sydney’s west between June 21 and July 3 last year.

A police statement of facts previously tendered in court said Young drove her pupil to a western Sydney park, mounted him and had sex in her car.

Investigators obtained CCTV footage allegedly showing Young’s car approaching the park, according to material before the court.

The aggravated element of each of the charges stems from the fact that the boy was under her authority and that Young had a position of trust at the time of offending.

She will undergo a psychiatric assessment before she is due to be sentenced in June.

‘We have medical personnel lined up and are hopeful for some treatment regimes before the inevitable,’ Ms Cunneen told the court.

Judge Traill did not alter Young’s bail conditions and she was allowed to remain at liberty.

The maximum penalty for each count of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child under 16 is 12 years’ imprisonment.

Crown Prosecutor Alexander Terracini told the court he would argue custody ‘is the only option’ for Young when she is sentenced on June 24.

Currently living with family, Young must report to police on a daily basis, adhere to a strict 8pm to 8am curfew and can only leave the house while accompanied by her parents or grandmother.

A NSW Education Department spokeswoman said Young was removed from its school as soon as they were made aware of the charges against her.

‘Ms Young is on the Not To Be Employed List and cannot teach in NSW public schools.’
