Toddler found dead in Welsh lake after being reported missing by family: 18-month-old boy was seen in waters at five-star country manor, inquest hears

A toddler was found was dead in a lake in the grounds of a Welsh country manor after being reported missing by his family, an inquest has heard. 

Eighteen-month-old Finley Howell Sanders, from Clydach, in Swansea, was pronounced dead by paramedics on Thursday, May 27, in the grounds of five-star Bed and Breakfast Maesycrugiau Manor in Carmarthenshire.

According to Wales Online, a call was made to police at 10pm on the night of May 26 by his family, who said he had gone missing and could not be found.

Emergency services were called and Finley was found ‘unresponsive’ in the water around 45 minutes later.

Speaking at the opening of the inquest into the child’s death, coroner’s officer for Dyfed-Powys Police Hayley Rogers said that ‘despite the best efforts of emergency services’ the boy was pronounced dead ‘in the early hours of the following morning’.

A police investigation into his death is still ongoing.

The inquest has now been adjourned for three months.     

Maesycrugiau Manor, which offers bed and breakfast accommodation, was built in the grounds of an Elizabethan castle. 

It is set in seven acres of grounds which, as well as the lake, boast an area of woodland.
