Tragedy as man, 53, dies on his second day in Brisbane hotel quarantine in apparent suicide – with police finding a note at the scene
Police fear a man may have committed suicide while in hotel quarantine in Brisbane after his body was discovered next to a note on Monday evening.
Emergency services workers found the 53 year old man unresponsive in his room around 5pm on Monday.
He was later pronounced dead.
‘Unfortunately, I can advise and confirm tragically overnight a male person in his 50s was found passed away in one of our quarantine hotels,’ said Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner Shane Chelepy.
‘I’m not able to go into any more detail at the moment but what I will say is that the matter is under investigation by police, and it will be referred to the coroner following that investigation and we’re engaging the coroner at the moment.
‘I just would like to acknowledge the response of the police and our health staff and other agencies in hotel staff that are working at the hotels, their response to that tragic matter.’
