Twist as a fourth person is charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl for more than two years

  • A 61-year-old man was arrested at a home in Muswellbrook on Monday at 4pm

A fourth person has been charged over his alleged role in the sexual and physical assault of a teenage girl over more than two years.

Detectives arrested a 61-year-old man at about 4pm on Monday at a Muswellbrook home in the New South Wales Hunter Valley region.

They allege the crimes occurred between April 2016 and December 2018. 

Two other men – aged 38 and 43 – and a 60-year-old woman have already been charged over their alleged roles and remain before the courts.

The 61-year-old man was taken to Waratah Police Station following his arrest and was charged with 16 sexual and physical violence-related offences.

They include indecent assault of a person under 16 years of age, cause a child older than 14 and below 18 to do an act of child prostitution and two counts of having sexual intercourse with a person older than 14 and younger than 16.

Police will allege the man repeatedly sexually and physically assaulted the girl when she was between 13 and 16 years old. 

He was refused bail and was due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday September 28.

Investigations are continuing under Strike Force Baria, established by the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad to investigate the alleged crimes.
