Remains have been unearthed at a popular children’s playground in Sydney.

Contractors discovered small bones while digging under a swing frame at Clontarf Reserve near Clontarf Beach, at Middle Harbour, on Thursday.

No skull or larger bones have been found. NSW Police set up a crime scene.

‘The remains were seized by police and will undergo forensic examination to determine if they are human and their origin,’ a spokesperson said.

A bystander said they watched police comb the area following the discovery.

‘The bones were put in those brown paper bags that police put evidence in,’ they said.

‘Then all the work on the playground stopped for the rest of the day.’

Construction is currently underway to build a new aquatic-themed playground.
