Mom of LA model found dead outside hospital insists her daughter would never take heroin

The mother of a Los Angeles model whose family believes she was murdered, spoke of her devastation in an interview with DailyMail.com.

The body of Christy Giles, 24, was dumped outside a hospital on Saturday evening. According to her husband, CCTV at the hospital showed three men in balaclavas driving a car without plates leaving her there.

Christy’s mother Dusty, of Dora, Alabama, was the first family member to receive the shocking news of her death and had spoken to her just hours earlier.

She said her daughter grew up as a southern belle with a fierce independence, was scouted to play soccer for college teams but chose modeling instead, signing with Wilhelmina Models at age 14.

She described a vibrant woman who was down-to-earth and ‘brutally honest’ with her friends and family, and remained close and loving to her siblings and parents despite glamorous moves to London, Miami, and Los Angeles pursuing her modeling career.

Her 26-year-old friend, Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, was dumped at a nearby hospital two hours after Giles’s body was left, and is now in a coma and unlikely to recover.

Dusty told DailyMail.com that Arzola’s hospital toxicology reports showed trace amounts of cocaine and ‘molly’ or ecstasy in her blood, as well as larger amounts of heroin, but that the LA coroner had not yet reported Christy’s results.

She said that texts between the girls also suggested they were taking cocaine at a warehouse party in East LA late last Friday night, after stopping by an event at Soho House in West Hollywood.

The grieving mom said she didn’t agree with her daughter’s recreational drug use but that Christy was always open and honest about it – and that her daughter was also adamant she would never take heroin, after seeing her close cousin become addicted and her close friend’s ex die of an overdose.

The mother said Arzola – who had only recently moved to LA from Mexico – also despised heroin according to family and friends.

That attitude, and the murky circumstances of Christy’s disappearance between 5:30am on Saturday morning and when her body was left at Southern California Hospital in Culver City 12 hours later, lead Dusty to believe that heroin was forced on the two women by the men they were with.

Texts between the girls from that night were recovered from Christy’s iCloud account.

‘We know that around 4:30am Hildy sent Christy a text and asked her if she wanted to do a line of coke,’ Dusty said.

‘Christy responded, “yes, where are you?” And she said, “I’m backstage.” So at this point, we know that they are still in a public safe area.’

Dusty said she was unsurprised by the references to drug use.

‘My daughter by no means was an angel. She lived her life very unapologetically, and was brutally honest and truthful with her family, regardless if we agreed with it or not, because she knew that we loved her unconditionally,’ she said.

‘She would have no reason to lie. We actually spoke regarding [heroin]. My daughter said “Hell no, the heroin out here is laced with fentanyl, people are dropping like flies.”

‘Her ex-boyfriend got hooked on drugs while they were dating. He went out of rehab, she met him, and the next day he overdosed and died. My daughter said there is absolutely no way [she would take heroin].’

After 5am Christy and Hilda then left the warehouse party with three men they’d met there, but instead of going to an official after party on the west side of the city, they went back to an apartment near Beverly Hills rented by two of the men.

At the apartment at 5:30am, Christy texted ‘let’s get out of here’ and Arzola called an Uber, but they never got in the cab or read their texts after that.

‘The girls were obviously not speaking out loud in front of these guys, they were texting each other,’ Dusty told The Sun earlier.

‘I believe they drugged them to keep them and I believe they probably raped them.’

Dusty told DailyMail.com Wednesday that her daughter’s military police officer father taught them self defense and that Christy would have put up a fight in any struggle with an assailant if she were not drugged first.

‘They actually know how to kill somebody with a ballpoint pen,’ she said.

‘She would have fought like hell. The only way they would have kept my daughter is to sedate her.

‘For 10-12 hours, they did something to subdue my daughter. Why didn’t they call 911?’

The mother said the family are anxiously waiting for the coroner to report on any drugs in Christy’s system, and the results of a rape kit to check for sexual assault.

The grieving mother said when the hospital told her on the phone that her daughter was dead she at first refused to believe it, trying desperately to find a mistake that would make the tragedy untrue.

‘It wasn’t real. I thought they had misidentified her. I asked them to let me FaceTime so that I could identify her body,’ she said.

Dusty, a 49-year-old nurse, told DailyMail.com that Christy did not have any visible bruises or scars according to hospital staff she spoke to.

The mother said when she spoke to Christy on Friday she seemed in good spirits.

‘She was going to be coming home on the 22nd and staying through Christmas here in Alabama,’ the mom said. ‘She was staying for her husband’s birthday on the 21st. She wanted to make him banana bread.’

Dusty said her daughter was scouted by Wilhelmina Models age 14, and moved to LA age 18 – but still had ‘strong family roots.’

‘She has two sisters, grandmothers, great grandmother. She was still going back and forth to Alabama. She got married two years ago.

‘They had plans on a family, they wanted children, they were looking at buying and moving to the suburbs so that they could have a yard and room to have children. This was not a flighty girl.’

The mother told DailyMail.com Christy excelled at sports and had to choose between a potential athletic career and modelling.

‘She was being scouted and looked at by colleges for women’s soccer when she was in ninth and tenth grade. She was all-county track in the largest county in Alabama,’ she said – adding that around ten years old, Christy was even drafted into the boys’ team left them quaking with her aggressive play.

‘When she got signed to modeling, they said you have to decide professional sports are modeling. She chose modeling, but continued the other passions.

‘She ran five miles a day and played soccer games on the beach whenever she could. When she came home she rode horses. This was a girl that loved life, had roots and was grounded.’
