Rashida Tliab couldn’t use Air Force One to fly to Detroit because she voted against infrastructure

Biden blocked Squad member Rashida Tliab from Air Force One flight to Detroit event because she voted against his infrastructure bill, report claims

  • Biden thanked Rep. Tlaib for the ‘passport into the city’ in event in her district
  • His trip to Detroit was to herald the new $1.2 trillion infrastructure law
  • Tlaib didn’t vote for it – she held out for leverage to move $1.8T reconciliation bill
  • Two Michigan Republicans voted for it, including Rep. Fred Upton, who got death threats

‘Squad’ member Rep. Rashida Tlaib had to book her own travel to her hometown of Detroit after President Joe Biden left her off the manifest for Air Force One after her refusal to vote for his $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.

Tlaib was among a group of House progressives, including ‘squad’ members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (Mass.) who wouldn’t budget – even as a pair of Michigan Republicans helped provide votes to Biden’s top legislative achievement so far over the top.

She earned a mention from Biden in his remarks at a General Motors factory that makes electric cars – but didn’t score a ride on the presidential aircraft.

‘That invitation was extended only to members of Congress who voted for the infrastructure bill,’ ABC News reported, citing an anonymous administration official.

Biden did mention her name in his remarks – and he still needs her vote for the $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Package, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to bring up as soon as possible this week.

‘As well as I want to thank Representative – where’s Representative Tlaib? I want to thank her for the passport into the city – into your district. Thank you. I appreciate it very much,’ Biden said.

She actually got her shout-out before other Michigan Democrats – who Biden thanked individually, dolloping praise for each one.

He said Sen. Debbie Stabenow ‘delivered for Michigan autoworkers.’ Sen. Gary Peters ‘was instrumental in securing $65 billion for high-speed internet,’ he said.

But, let me tell you: The infrastructure law I signed on Monday would not be possible without the Michigan congressional delegation. That’s not hyperbole.

He said Rep. Elissa Slotkin ‘knows that the competitive edge around the world depends on the strength of our industrial base here at home,’ said Rep. Dan Kildee ‘continues to be the leading voice for investing in infrastructure in small towns and communities, and said Rep. Haley Stevens ‘ran for office to fix Michigan’s roads and bridges. Well, you’re delivering, kid. You are delivering.’

He said Rep. Andy Levin ‘fought like hell to make sure that this law allowed us to start replacing lead pipes in Michigan and all across America,’ Brenda Lawrence was a ‘key fighter’ for clean water, and called Debbie Dingell a ‘great friend’ who he calls for advice when he’s in trouble.

‘Folks, it’s not hyperbole to say that this delegation is laser-focused on your needs – the needs of the people of Michigan and the American people – and your concerns,’ said Biden.

The snub comes amid increasing concerns by some Democratic strategists that the party risks losing elections next year if it is seen as catering to the ‘woke’ left, after Republican Glenn Youngkin’s victory in the Virginia governor’s race touting education issues and going after Critical Race Theory.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Without votes from a bloc of progressives, Democratic leaders had to scrounge for Republican votes to get the bill through.

Two Michigan Republicans voted for the bill, including Rep. Fred Upton, who got death threats as a result. He released a voicemail he says he got after the vote saying: ‘I hope you die. I hope everybody in your f—— family dies’ and calling him a ‘traitor.’
