Aussies unable to access Covid passports after myGov website crashes

Thousands of Australians are unable to access Covid passports as myGov website goes down for a whole day

  • The myGov website crashed on Sunday when routine maintenance ran overtime
  • The agency tweeted at 2.30pm it was ‘urgently’ working to fix the problem
  • Users said among the services unavailable were Covid-19 vaccine passports

Thousands of Australians were unable to access Covid vaccination passports for hours after the myGov website went offline.

The system was scheduled for maintenance between midnight and 8am on Sunday, but was still down by late Sunday afternoon.

The agency said about 2.30pm that the site and ‘some of its member services’ were still unavailable and technicians were ‘urgently working through some updates’.

‘Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for your patience, we’ll keep you updated,’ the agency added.

Commenters on the post said that among the services that couldn’t be accessed were Covid-19 vaccine certificates.

The item is essential for checking into shops and hospitality venues, though most Australians use state check in systems to prove their vaccination status.

The agency said vaccine certificates could be accessed via the Express Plus Medicare app, even while the myGov system is down.

‘You can also save it offline to your Apple Wallet or Google Pay,’ myGov said.

Those who have yet to save the item offline would still need to access the system to perform this action, however.

The same applies for linking the vaccine passport to the Service NSW and Service Victoria check-in apps.
