Qantas CEO Alan Joyce concedes airfares will rise as he announces flight cuts to ‘ease the pressure’ on fuel bill


Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said the rising fuel prices and demand for international and domestic travel has prompted the airline to cut back its flight capacity and increase the price of airfares.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says he expects airfares will rise as fuel prices have hit record highs.

The airline on Friday revealed it will cut an additional five per cent of domestic flights for July and August on top of a 10 per cent reduction announced in May.

Mr Joyce said the reductions, combined with international and domestic travel demand, are expected to assist with the elevated cost of fuel.
