Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard says current modelling indicates the COVID-19 wave is going to get “worse” and it will be “very common” for people to be infected by the new subvariant.
He said the peak of the current wave will continue to get worse at least until the end of July or early August “when it will peak”.
“This subvariant can evade immunity, whether that be acquired through vaccination or natural infection,” Mr Gerrard said.
