Australian Sports Commission CEO Kieren Perkins says “blanket ignorant exclusion” is “not the answer” to the transgender swimming debate as he pushes for a more “nuanced dialogue”.

FINA last month restricted transgender athletes from competing in women’s competitions and said it will create a separate “open” category.

He said the decision by the governing body for swimming to set up a separate “fantasy land” category has “set back the cause”.
