John Howard says Scott Morrison’s handful of secret portfolios did not ‘damage’ democracy but calls on former PM for explanations


Former prime minister John Howard has dismissed suggestions Scott Morrison’s series of Cabinet self-appointments has done damage to Australia’s democracy.

Mr Howard did however urge his fellow former prime minister to explain the reasons for secretly taking on five additional portfolios between March 2020 and May 2021.

In an interview with Sky News Australia’s Andrew Bolt, the second longest-serving Australian prime minister also sent a warning to Anthony Albanese given the mass outrage in reaction to the saga.
