Energy and Climate Minister Chris Bowen has flagged the Labor Government will pursue fuel efficiency standards to boost electric vehicle numbers in Australia – a move slammed by the Coalition as “another broken promise”.
The government on Friday announced it would release a discussion paper on EVs where it will float the prospect of introducing standards which forces international car manufacturers to increase supply of the zero-emissions vehicles.
But the move has come under fire as the proposal was ruled out in Labor’s $500 million “driving the nation funded”.
