The West indicates Russia and Vladimir Putin will struggle to recruit 300,000 men to fight in Ukraine invasion


Western officials believe Russia “will face major challenges” in recruiting citizens to fight in Ukraine – as one country closes its borders to fleeing men of fighting age.

Russian President Vladimir Putin this week ordered a partial military mobilisation, the first since World War II, in a bid to change the course of the seven-month war.

“We are talking about partial mobilisation, that is, only citizens who are currently in the reserve will be subject to conscription, and above all, those who served in the armed forces and have a certain military specialty and relevant experience,” he…
