Australian businesses are ‘losing a huge amount of money’ to cyber criminals


ASPI’s International Cyber Policy Centre Director Fergus Hanson says there is still a “soft view” about cyber security and cybercrime, with it being seen as “less problematic”.

“In fact, it’s far more problematic because it’s so prevalent,” he said.

Mr Hanson said the issue is not being tackled as forcefully as it needs to be.

“Businesses around Australia, and not just banks, are losing a huge amount of money to cyber criminals every single day.

“And that is putting a huge handbrake on Australian enterprises because they are outlaying costs to cyber criminals for no gain…
