Vote counting for Brazil’s new President underway

Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro’s quest for re-election is in danger.

Polls have closed in the first round of the country’s presidential election, with leftist former President Lula da Silva securing 51 per cent of the vote, with less than 10 per cent of the ballots counted.

The Amazon, corruption, religion and possible vote rigging were highlighted during an often bitter campaign.
