Former U.S. Army prosecutor Glenn Kirschner says a judge’s decision to break up the Georgia election interference case into two trials could “devastate” former President Donald Trump, one of 19 defendants in the sprawling racketeering probe over attempts to overturn the 2020 election in the state.
Judge Scott McAfee on Thursday ruled that 17 of the defendants — including Trump — will not be tried at the same time as two other defendants who sought a speedy trial, pro-Trump attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell. They come before the court on Oct. 23.
