Ms Fryett advised the BBC: ‘We began as a result of we could not promote poppies on the streets within the pandemic. We now have a bunch of 12-15 girls who knit for us – all volunteers, principally pensioners.

‘We add one thing new to our shows annually and this 12 months we needed to do a horse.

‘We equipped the supplies and Peterborough Technical School completed it for us.

‘The reactions and suggestions from the general public on our shows have been wonderful. We’re so moved.

‘This has been a group effort and one which has given individuals one thing to sit up for.’
