SALT LAKE CITY — An avalanche has closed a part of the North Ogden Divide in Weber County whereas Utah Division of Transportation crews have closed Little Cottonwood Canyon for avalanche mitigation work.
Weber County dispatch confirmed that highway crews noticed the avalanche Friday morning, and the north aspect of the highway might be closed “for some time.” No accidents had been reported.
In Salt Lake County, state Route 210 is closed on the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon whereas crews carry out avalanche mitigation work. They hope to have the highway open by 8:30 a.m. Friday.
Avalanche hazard is excessive throughout central and northern Utah mountains, in line with the Utah Avalanche Middle. An avalanche warning has been issued as sturdy winds and heavy snowfall have created harmful avalanche situations.
“Avalanches failing on a widespread persistent weak layer buried beneath the brand new snow are very seemingly. Keep off of and out from beneath slopes steeper than 30 levels,” the middle mentioned.
That warning lasts by means of 6 a.m. Saturday.
