ST. GEORGE — Whereas in jail on an armed theft case, a person practically beat a Washington County inmate to demise. He now will serve jail time for each instances.

On Feb. 20, Lazaro Ponce, 47, of Savannah, Georgia, appeared earlier than District Choose Jay Winward to be sentenced on a second-degree aggravated assault.

The case was initially filed on Dec. 22, 2022, as a first-degree felony aggravated tried homicide after Ponce practically beat an inmate to demise on the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

On the time of the incident, jail command workers discovered the injured inmate unconscious and crushed to the purpose workers had been “involved that the sufferer was going to die,” authorities stated. The person was transported to St. George Regional Hospital in vital situation.
