Emmitt Smith, a three-time Tremendous Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys and former star operating again with the Florida Gators, ripped his alma mater after the college fired all Range, Fairness and Inclusion (DEI) positions and administrative appointments.
The college made its determination to adjust to Florida regulation.
The Florida Board of Governors handed a regulation in January that restricted public funding for DEI, defining them as “any program, campus exercise, or coverage that classifies people on the premise of race, shade, intercourse, nationwide origin, gender identification, or sexual orientation and promotes differential or preferential therapy of people on the premise of such classification.”
The Unbiased Florida Alligator, a campus newspaper, mentioned 13 full-time variety, fairness and inclusion positions have been dismissed and 15 administrative appointments have been eradicated.

Smith, on Sunday, slammed the college in a prolonged assertion.
“I’m completely disgusted by UF’s determination and the precedent that it units,” Smith mentioned. “With out the DEI division, the job falls to the Workplace of the Provost, who already has their arms full, to boost cash for the college and proceed to advance the tutorial research in athletic applications.
“We can not proceed to consider and belief {that a} staff of leaders all made up of the identical background will make the best determination on the subject of equality and variety. Historical past has already confirmed that’s not the case.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has made halting DEI a cornerstone of his efforts to overtake training within the state, wrote on X, “Florida is the place DEI goes to die.”

DEI campus proponents argue they assist right systemic inequities and handle more and more various scholar populations, whereas its foes like DeSantis have mentioned they’re a type of leftist discrimination.
