Huge earthquakes hit Taiwan: Warning of attainable three-metre tsunami after 7.5 magnitude quake and powerful aftershocks rock Asian island, downing a number of buildings

A large 7.5-magnitude earthquake has hit Taiwan, sparking fears of three-metre tall tsunami waves affecting Japan’s southern islands.

The Japan Meteorological Company (JMA) has issued a tsunami alert for the southern islands of the Far Japanese nation following the tremor, which occurred shortly earlier than 9am Japanese native time (12am GMT, 1am UK time).

A publish from the JMA’s catastrophe preparation account on X, previously Twitter, has warned these within the affected areas to not go away designated secure zones till given the all clear.

A translation of the tweet learn: ‘As of 09:01 on the third, a tsunami warning has been issued. Tsunamis strike repeatedly. Don’t go away your secure space till the warning has been lifted.’

The JMA says the Okinawa and Miyajokima and Yaeyama island groupings are prone to tsunamis as much as three metres (10feet) excessive.

A number of movies have been shared of harm to Hualien, a metropolis on the east coast of Taiwan near the epicentre of the quake. 

In a number of photographs, a big crimson glass-fronted tower block was seen to have partially collapsed, keeling over in the direction of the bottom and resting at an angle as shocked onlookers watched on.
