India abstains on UN Human Rights Council decision calling for fast ceasefire in Gaza


UNITED NATIONS: India on Friday abstained within the UN Human Rights Council on a decision contacting for an prompt ceasefire in Gaza and demanding that Israel promptly carry its ‘unlawful’ blockade on the strip.

The draft decision on the ‘human authorized rights scenario within the Occupied Palestinian Territory, along with East Jerusalem, and the duty to make sure ‘accountability and justice’ was adopted by the Geneva-based Council with a vote of 28 in favour, 6 versus and 13 abstentions.

India abstained together with France, Japan, Netherlands and Romania amongst some others.

All these voting versus the decision built-in Argentina, Bulgaria, Germany and the US.

Nations voting in favour of the decision included Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
