SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Authorities within the Dominican Republic stated Thursday they’ve launched an investigation after an immigration officer was accused of raping a 14-year-old woman.
The mom of the woman, who’s from neighboring Haiti, alleged the assault occurred final week close to the upscale resort city of Punta Cana, after the suspect broke into their dwelling.

Santiago Molina, a human rights activist, stated the incident occurred when immigration officers have been looking properties in an space generally known as Verón, the place migrants largely from Haiti have settled.

Molina stated the woman’s mom was at work on the time of the assault and that he had accompanied the mom to file a grievance. He added that the household is being harassed consequently.

An announcement from the Basic Directorate of Migration, responding to a question from The Related Press, stated that if an officer is discovered to be concerned within the incident, he would face justice.
The AP just isn’t naming the woman’s mom with the intention to protect her privateness.
