When 4 senior defence figures are handcuffed in lower than a month, that’s greater than a sample. It’s a purge.

The most recent senior navy man to be locked up is Lt Gen Vadim Shamarin, deputy chief of the military’s basic employees and head of the Most important Communications Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces.

Accused of large-scale bribe-taking, he’s been positioned in pre-trial detention for 2 months.
