SOUTH SALT LAKE — Two officers are injured, one from being hit by a car, in South Salt Lake Friday night after an encounter with a federal fugitive, police stated.
The incident occurred about 5:40 p.m. at 249 E. Helm Avenue. Unified cops on the scene stated two officers have been injured, one in all whom obtained hit by a car.
Police stated the Metro Gang Unit was within the space making an attempt to arrest Tyson Yellowbear, 39, on a federal warrant when he hit one of many officers, who was outdoors his patrol car, with a pickup truck. It is unclear if Yellowbear purposefully focused that officer.
A special Unified police car then stopped the truck from fleeing the scene, officer Quin Wilkins stated. Each officers and Yellowbear sustained accidents that didn’t look like life-threatening and have been transported to the hospital, police stated.
It is unclear how the second officer was injured. Police additionally didn’t specify what the federal warrant was for.
Yellowbear has a legal historical past that features housebreaking and a conviction of legal murder, in keeping with a case search.
