Leicester defender Conor Coady has revealed Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson made a huge attempt to get Jude Bellingham to join Liverpool before his move to Real Madrid last year.

Liverpool were huge admirers of Bellingham having tracked him for a long period during his time at Borussia Dortmund, and Jurgen Klopp uncharastically even ran his praises.

Fans speculated on social media at the time that England team-mates Alexander-Arnold and Henderson tried to convince the 20-year-old to join the Reds  – and Coady has now confirmed that was the case.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5’s Football Daily podcast, Coady said: ‘I think Hendo and Trent tried with Jude, at the World Cup yeah 100%.

‘They man marked the life out of him. I think them two tried it, and to be fair, you would, wouldn’t you?

‘Let’s be honest if you are at a club like that, of course you would!

‘And you know he’s going to leave in the summer which was quite common knowledge and there was all these clubs in for him. So, 100% you would, without a shadow of a doubt’

‘They were either side of him, we’d all be sat there and they’d be talking about how good Liverpool is, Klopp is and this sort of stuff and we’d all be sat there having something to eat and listening to them.’

Bellingham eventually went on to join Real Madrid for £113m and enjoyed a hugely successful first season in the Spanish capital.

The midfielder scored 23 goals and provided 13 across all competitions to help Carlo Ancelotti’s men to the Champions League and LaLiga title.

Meanwhile, Liverpool underwent midfield rebuild last year and signed the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Endo, finishing third in the Premier League and winning the League Cup.

Bellingham is currently on Euro 2024 duty alongside Alexander-Arnold, with the Three Lions failing to impress so far.

Gareth Southgate’s men were booed by their own supporters following Tuesday’s dire 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

It followed a 1-0 win over Serbia and a 1-1 draw with Denmark, but they managed to top their group.

England will face Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen in the last-16 on Sunday evening.
