Shocking video footage has captured the moment a fired employee was caught on camera spilling 60,000 liters of wine at a warehouse – causing a $2.7 million loss.

The woman, whose name was not released by the Valladolid Civil Guard, was arrested and taken into custody on Thursday and questioned by police before being release.

A trial date is pending, officers said.

The worker was on a temporary one-year contract with wine maker Cepa 21 and in notified in the first week of February that it was not going to be renewed.

The employee masked her identity by wearing a hooded sweatshirt and entered the winery in the town of Castrillo de Duero the early morning of February 18. Once inside, she keyed in the code for the alarm system, which she was not aware was shut off and activated it.

In February, the former employee of wine maker Cepa 21 was caught on camera sabotaging the tanks at the warehouse in Castrillo de Duero, Spain and releasing 60,000 liters of wine worth $2.7 million. Authorities arrested her at her residence on Thursday

A surveillance camera showed her approaching one of the barrels and rotating the valve as wine rushed out and nearly knocked her over.

As the wine splashed across the floor, the woman attempted to sabotage a second tank that turned out to be empty and ran to another area of the warehouse.

Police said that the worker was able to activate three of the five tanks she was able to access before fleeing.

According to Europa Press, the tanks stored two of Cepa 21’s top-selling wine that accounted for 15 percent of its sales in 2023.

Cepa 21 president, José Moro, told Antena 3 television that they notified the woman of the decision to not extend the contract to allow her enough time to find another job.

The woman was told in early February that her temporary work contract was not going to be renewed. So she returned the morning of February 18 and proceeded to turn on the valves of five tanks, including three that contained 60,000 liters of red wine

‘The reason for the dismissal is because we have work peaks in which we need more staff, during high season,’ Moro said. ‘But in the middle seasons we need fewer people, and for productivity and rotation, it was her turn.’

Moro revealed that she returned to the warehouse shortly after the incident to ask to be rehired.

‘Why he did it, I am unable to understand,’ he said. The feeling I have is bittersweet, on the one hand satisfaction because they caught him but on the other, what a shame because I remember when I entered the winery and saw all the fallen wine. It’s outrageous. I’m sad.’

Investigators are looking into whether the woman’s boyfriend aided her in sabotaging the wine tanks.
