Barbes nightclub, Perth: Up to 50 people involved in ugly brawl outside club – with five people turning up at hospital

Police are investigating after reports of a bloody street battle outside a nightclub, which according to one witness involved 50 people.

While no officers or paramedics were called to the incident outside central Perth’s Barbes nightclub on Hay Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, five people later presented to the Royal Perth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Saturday police cordoned off an area outside the club and the nearby carpark next to a TAB where officers examined some fallen temporary construction site fencing.

Forensics officers have been examining several trails of blood on the pavement and street along with other items of interest that have been flagged on the bitumen as they take photos or put evidence into bags.

Melissa Nightingable, who is homeless and was sleeping in her car behind the nearby Carlton Hotel when the brawl broke out between 4am and 6am, witnessed the fight.

‘I was just trying to sleep in my car, it’s really hard being homeless … and so I tried to hide so they didn’t know it was just me in my car and that was when a group of them just went free for all,’ she said.

‘They started to throw rocks and gravel at my car … (I thought) they were going to break in (and I was going) to get raped or get killed or get beaten.’

Ms Nightingable said there were at least two people injured out of the roughly 50 combatants.

‘One was limping and the other one had his hand covering up his white t-shirt,’ she said.

‘I heard really bad language and swearing.’

Police confirmed they received no reports of a crime being committed or victim complaints from the incident.
