While England gear up for their last-16 clash with Slovakia, a tidal wave of negativity has hit other Euro 2024 favourites.

At just the right time for Gareth Southgate’s men, rival fans are feeling nervous and pundits are identifying weaknesses in sides that were previously seen as insuperable.

In today’s episode of the It’s All Kicking Off! Euros Daily podcast, Ian Ladyman and Chris Sutton run a fine toothcomb over the likes of Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Columnist Sutton points out that Germany have not won a major tournament knockout game since 2016, building on Ian Herbert’s report on angst among the hosts.

And as Ladyman puts it: ‘The French have given up, the Italians don’t fancy themselves, the Spanish aren’t confident!’ Of course, though, they still have the potential to obliterate.

Will England go all the way? If they do, Mail Sport will be behind the lads every step of the way with our new ‘We’re backing England’ campaign across all platforms.

PLUS: Which England player’s Euros inclusion does Ladyman question, who is in line to start against Slovakia, and fancy an update on Anthony Gordon after his bike accident?
