This is the shocking moment a ‘street takeover’ attended by hundreds ended in a blazing inferno early Saturday morning in downtown Los Angeles.

The takeover occurred before 3am at the intersection of 18th and Main streets, according to preliminary reports by OnSceneTV.

Two vehicles erupted into flames in the middle of the intersection, KTLA News reported.

It remains unclear if the fire was deliberately set or if the vehicles caught fire accidentally, the news outlet reports.

When police arrived they confirmed there were at least 50 cars present. 

An LAPD spokesperson told KTLA, officers were initially deployed to the location due to fireworks being lit.

Citizen reported that numerous vehicles exploded due in part to the nitrous tanks.

The chaotic scene had at least 400 to 500 people blocking access to the street, with reports that the takeover may have involved racing vehicles, as per the Citizen mobile app. 

The report said that police had requested additional units to divert traffic at the scene and ensure public safety, as emergency services were working to contain the fires and manage the crowd.

Police requested two tow trucks to remove the burned and wrecked vehicles, as per Citizen. 

The incident was being investigated. As of Saturday early afternoon, it was still not known if anyone was injured or sustained injuries. 

During the terrifying scene, traffic was reported to be moving near the burning vehicles – with some motorists honking while others drove past as if nothing happened.

According to reports, police made no arrests, but the two wrecked vehicles were impounded.

In March, a street takeover took over in the same downtown LA area around 11.30pm at night.

The LAPD’s Central Division patrol units were deployed to the area after they received multiple reports of the sideshow.

After officers responded to the area the takeover was shut down without incident within minutes.
