A McDonald’s in south London has installed metal detectors at its entrance, a video posted on social media reveals.
The footage, uploaded to TikTok on Sunday, also shows several police officers standing guard outside the Camberwell branch.
It comes after a man in his 60s was stabbed on a 436 bus outside The Old Dispensary pub in Camberwell, just over the road from McDonald’s, on May 29 this year.
The footage, taken by a passenger in a passing car, shows at least four officers, with a couple speaking to members of the public.
A woman in the background can be heard saying: ‘Something definitely happened for them to do it there.’
Between the guarding officers, two tall grey columns – believed to be the metal detectors – are visible on each side of the door.
As the camera pans away, another woman says: ‘That’s so dodge (sic).’
The video was posted with the caption: ‘Metal detectors outside McDonald’s in Camberwell yesterday.’
The clip has since received over 580 likes and more than 60 comments from people keen to share their views on the measures taken.
Social media users criticised the anti-social behaviour that likely made this added security necessary.
One wrote: ‘Why not start policing the streets? Stop and search? Actual deterrents for committing crimes?
’15-year-old stabs kid, gets life sentence (will be out by the time he’s 30).’
Another commented: ‘I could think of only a handful of times where I’ve been in a McDonald’s and a fight hasn’t broken out. Daytime, night time. Always brawling.’

A third said: ‘Well, they only bring them in when there’s been problems in the past.’
Another said: ‘Part and parcel of living in our once great capital city, and you were warned.’
A fifth wrote: ‘Totally pointless as anyone carrying a weapon simply won’t go into McDonald’s. Unless it’s there as an intelligence test?’
A McDonald’s spokesperson said on Monday: ‘At McDonald’s, we want to be a good neighbour in the communities we serve.
‘We have a strong working relationship with the local police in Camberwell and our restaurants support them with a number of initiatives to tackle issues and make Camberwell a more welcoming place for everyone.’
McDonald’s have been approached for further comment.
