That was how BBC presenter Victoria Derbyshire reacted after her abusive father threw scalding soup over her as a toddler.
The broadcaster has spoken of the traumatic abuse she suffered by the hands of her father which included her being overwhelmed with a wood spoon and hit with a belt.
She described her response whereas being coated in scalding soup, saying: ‘I simply checked out him with contempt in my eyes – and he may see it.’
She mentioned the abuse would imply that when he would get dwelling, her and her siblings would ‘sprint to our bedrooms and shut the door’ after they would hear their father’s key within the again door.

In an interview with The Impartial, Derbyshire mentioned that regardless of the abuse she would attempt to not flinch when her bullying father struck her.
‘It was my manner of displaying him that I could not be riled,’ she mentioned.
In one other surprising revelation, the Newsnight presenter recounted the time her father put his fingers round her throat in entrance of her greatest good friend.
