An inquest investigating the deaths of seven residents on the Holmesley care residence in Sidmouth, Devon heard how the the deputy supervisor, Jemma Turner, was known as by a feminine member of employees at 4am in March 2021.

She claimed she was told by bosses that the tests were a 'bad patch' and that the tests were not positive for Covid and was accused of overreacting, the inquest heard.

She claimed she was instructed by bosses that the checks had been a ‘unhealthy patch’ and that the checks weren’t constructive for Covid and was accused of overreacting, the inquest heard.

She instantly went to the care residence in a bid to ‘hold the residents secure’, the inquest heard.

She examined residents and instructed the coroner: ‘I feel all of them had been constructive. What am I going to do?’ 

She claimed she was instructed by bosses that the checks had been a ‘unhealthy patch’ and that the checks weren’t constructive for Covid and was accused of overreacting, the inquest heard.

She stated: ‘I used to be shocked and unhappy. I feel all however three or 4 residents had been constructive, in all probability 5 employees had been left, everybody else was constructive.’

Mrs Turner additionally stated {that a} feminine member of employees who felt unwell requested for a check and that her boss stated it was unfavourable and allegedly binned the check – however the member of employees later discovered the check together with others exhibiting they had been constructive.

The registered nurse added there was a excessive turnover of employees on the residence which added to the issues in adhering to Covid measures. 

The seven residents who died between March and April 2021 – three males and 4 ladies – had been aged between 70 and 102.

Mrs Turner replied: ‘It was terrible. This might have been prevented.’
