Boney Kapoor’s extra-marital affair with Sridevi back in the 80s had become one of the most hotly debated topics covered by every tabloid. While Sridevi’s pan-Indian fame as a superstar was one of the factors that led to severe criticism, she was also vilified for being a home-breaker to Boney’s peaceful marriage with his wife, Mona Shourie and their kids, Arjun and Anshula. Nevertheless, Boney and Sridevi’s love for one another conquered everything and the duo finally got hitched in a secret temple wedding in 1996. Post their wedding, Boney left his wife and kids on their own accord and went ahead to set up a new life with Sridevi.
Boney Kapoor recalled confessing to Mona Shourie about his affair with Sridevi
Boney Kapoor had indeed broken the hearts of his wife and children when he decided to abruptly end everything and move on in his life with Sridevi. While this move of the filmmaker had enraged quite a large section of the audience, it was also his family and especially his children who could not forgive him for the same. Years later, at the India Today Woman’s Summit held in 2013, Boney had recalled those testing times of the past in his life and had recalled the moment when he had actually braved up to confess details about his extra-marital affair with Sridevi turning into love to his wife, Mona Shourie. He had mentioned:
“In fact, I had confessed to my ex-wife that I’m in love with her. I couldn’t hold myself back.”

When Boney Kapoor spoke about his obsession with Sridevi during their dating years
Boney Kapoor had dated Sridevi secretly for quite a long time before tying the knot. They kept their affair under wraps, nevertheless, it wasn’t late before media got a whiff of it and started criticising the couple. But with all of the mess outside, Boney and Sridevi’s relationship had grown stronger and never faltered. In one of his interviews with Filmfare, Boney Kapoor had once opened up on the times when he was seemingly obsessed with Sridevi, who appeared to be all the more innocent and simplistic. In his words:
“Basically, Sri’s an introvert. Her job done, she’d keep to herself. But what impressed me was her innocence. She was not corrupted by artifice. Mere dil ko woh gherti chali gayee. My obsession for her only grew each time I met her. She was so simple despite being a superstar.”

In his marriage with Mona Shourie, Boney was blessed with two kids, his son, Arjun Kapoor and his daughter, Anshula Kapoor. On the other hand, in his marriage with Sridevi, he was blessed with two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. While this made all the four of them half-siblings of one another, the journey of their bonding together did not take place for the longest time, until Sridevi’s death in 2018. It was at that time when the eldest of all of them, Arjun Kapoor stepped forward to shoulder his duties towards his half-sisters, Janhvi and Khushi. Gradually, all four of them gelled amicably and fast forward to today, they are known to be the naughtiest riot of half-siblings. Speaking about the same, Boney Kapoor once, in an interview, reflected on the bonding among all four of his children and mentioned:
“As I said, I am blessed to have these four. They love each other a lot and I am glad that they have come together. It was due to happen anytime, it just happened when something unfortunate happened. They are all my blood and they had to come around. I give credit to all four, but yes, more to Arjun because he is the eldest. He flew into Dubai to be with me. Anshula was in Mumbai with Janhvi and Khushi. They have happened through two different mothers but why should they get affected? They need their father now, and I am going to be around them.”

Boney Kapoor revealed how he was once on the verge of breaking a promise to his late wife, Sridevi
Boney Kapoor loves to share fond anecdotes about his personal life, which often delves into one or two things about his past with late wife, late Sridevi. For instance, during his appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, he had once mentioned how there was a time post the death of his wife, Sridevi, when he was on the verge of breaking a promise, he had made to the former about quitting cigarettes once and for all. Spilling beans on the same, he had mentioned:
“When she passed away, when I was in Dubai for those 3-4 days, I had so much urge because I was all alone in distress, tension, anxiety, all those things, that was the only time I felt like smoking.”
