Jennifer Lopez’s former co-star Ryan Guzman reveals suicide attempt before landing his hit show 9-1-1… as he reflects on death of pal tWitch

Ryan Guzman shared a story about his mental health this week.

The star, who worked with Jennifer Lopez on 2015’s The Boy Next Door, revealed a past crisis during which he tried to commit suicide. 

‘About six and a half, seven years ago… I tried, at one point in time, to take my own life,’ the 9-1-1 star, 36, told People. 

‘Luckily it didn’t work. Luckily I got a second chance, by the grace of God,’ he added.

On Tuesday’s episode of the Never Said This Before podcast he said the death of his friend Stephen tWitch Boss in 2022 reminded him of what’s important.

‘That moment itself, in addition to what happened to my brother tWitch, are probably the two biggest fundamental moments of my entire life and have allowed me to have a deeper sense of mercy and empathy towards every individual,’ he explained.

Guzman wants men, in particular, to get real with themselves and address their feelings.  

‘So I would implore that all men renounce this fact of “You’re a tough man, you have to hold all this in,” but lean on your brother. 

‘Really lean on your brother and if your brothers aren’t being there in the way they need to be, find some new ones,’ he continued. 

‘If you don’t have the people that are conducive to a healthy lifestyle, you’re keeping on to them because of loyalty, let them go. 

There’s plenty other people. There’s people that have been through your situation before and are more than willing to help.’

Guzman has kept his mental health struggles to himself until now with one exception. 

In May 2020 he responded to a fan in a comment on X (formerly Twitter), writing:  ‘I’ve dealt with depression for years now,’ he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 

‘I’ve found that the unavoidable battles of negativity can only be ‘beat’ by keepin the mind busy on tasks that allow negativity to flow through you, rather than sittin in it. The battles can be won but the war is endless.’

Guzman was in the news last month when his ex-girlfriend Melanie Iglesias accused Lopez of asking him to pretend he was single when they were promoting their 2015 film The Boy Next Door on the No Chaser podcast.  

That is why Jennifer was seen holding hands with Ryan when they promoted the movie, all the while knowing Guzman went back to Iglesias at the end of the night.

Lopez – who was dating Casper Smart in 2015 – and Iglesias look very similar with toned figures and long dark hair.

A source tells DailyMail.com, however, that this claim is far from true: ‘Jennifer was happily in a relationship at the time,’ added the insider. ‘She doesn’t play games like that.’
