Doug Ingle dead at 78: Iron Butterfly founding member and lead singer handed ‘peacefully’ and ‘in the presence of family’

Doug Ingle, the primary lead singer of the rock band Iron Butterfly, has died at the age of 78.

The Omaha, Nebraska native was the final surviving member of the typical Iron Butterfly lineup that carried out on their 2nd studio album, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album (1968). 

‘It’s with a weighty heart & great unhappiness to announce the passing of my Father Doug Ingle. Dad handed away peacefully [Friday] night [May 24] in the existence of loved ones,’ his son, Doug Ingle Jr., wrote in a Facebook post, as reported by Deadline.

He continued, ‘Thank You Dad for becoming a father, teacher and buddy. Cherished loving memories I will have the relaxation of my times moving forward in this journey of daily life. Really like you Dad.’

The band formed in San Diego in 1966 with authentic users: Ingle (vocals and organ), Jack Pinney (drums), Greg Willis (bass) and Danny Weis (guitar).
