Ricky Martin reflects on tough 2023 after announcing divorce from ex-husband Jwan Yosef

Ricky Martin has opened up about his 2023 divorce, recalling how tough it was for him and his family.

Martin spoke about the dark time in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times. He shared his plans to “revive” some of his hits but said he just hasn’t gotten around to getting back into the studio.

“I went through so much last year – I went through a divorce, I changed managers, I went through family issues,” he said, explaining the reason behind the delay.

“Right now, I’m in such a great place, and I just want to keep it simple and have fun with my kids, enjoy me being single and all that good stuff.

“I guess it’s now all about the input in order for me to be able to go into the studio and work on the output.”

The Livin La Vida Loca singer filed for divorce from his now ex-husband Jwan Yosef in July, 2023, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the split.

”We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years,” the couple said in a joint statement shared with People.

“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other.”

They reached a settlement and finalised their divorce just two months later, entering into an uncontested written agreement according to People.

The couple share custody over their two children, Lucia, five, and Renn, four. However, Martin continues to raise his two eldest, twins Matteo and Valentino, 15, as a single parent.
