‘It is very emotionally draining for me’: Selena Gomez hints she may never tour again

Selena Gomez hasn’t toured since 2016 and it seems there’s a chance she may never do so again.

In the middle of her 2016 tour for her album Revival the star suddenly pulled out after experiencing personal health and mental health struggles.

In an interview with Time, the singer shared that she is on the fence about touring again revealing that she feels “50-50” about it.

On the one hand, Gomez loves touring.

“Nothing makes me happier than 90 minutes of being with my fans and just celebrating together,” she says.

On the other hand, she finds it very taxing.

“It is very emotionally draining for me. And then you realise you’re just surrounded by a bunch of people that you’re paying.”

In the 2022 documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, Gomez’ friend described the reason for the cancellation of her Revival tour as a “psychotic break”.

“At one point she’s like, ‘I don’t want to be alive right now. I don’t want to live,'” Gomez’s former assistant Theresa said.

“And I’m like, ‘Wait, what?’ It was one of those moments where you look in her eyes and there’s nothing there. It was just pitch black. It’s so scary.

The documentary provided an intimate look into Gomez’ mental health journey during that period.

Living with lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease and bipolar disorder, Gomez has been candid with the public about her experiences.

Her openness about her struggles has resonated among many of her fans and was the inspiration behind her beauty brand Rare Beauty.

Centered around a social impact initiative “committed to making a difference in the world,” Rare Beauty’s aim is to reduce the stigma around mental health and support those who may be struggling.

As she focusses on her mental health, Gomez is making a conscious effort to take care of her mind.

Over the years, despite being the most followed woman on Instagram, she has been known to take breaks from social media in the interest of her mental health.

In a recent panel appearance at the 2024 Time 100 Summit, the Single Soon singer shared that taking a break from Instagram is the best thing she’s ever done for herself.

“I took four years off of Instagram and I let my team post for me,” she said.

“I felt like it was the most rewarding gift I gave myself. I was more present. I was happier.”

While touring may not be on the cards for Gomez anytime soon, she remains busy with Rare Beauty and her film and television projects including her film Emilia Perez which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
