Anurag Kashyap talks about battling extreme sickness in the past two years
In a recent interaction with the Humans of Cinema, Anurag Kashyap opened up about why he has stopped showing support to other brethren filmmakers, especially those with independent films on their hands. Talking about the reason behind it, Anurag reveals that he was suffering from two years of extreme sickness, when he was heavily dependent on medicines, and even was dealing with severe depression. Adding how his health didn’t permit him from paying attention to anything else, Anurag said:
“What people are not aware and they don’t ask, is what zone are you in. I have gone through two and a half years of extreme sickness, dependency on medicines, I have gone through my whole phase of depression. In a phase like that, you have to prioritise yourself first. So, if I am not physically, mentally, emotionally healed…. If you see my interviews of last years, you will see it is on my face how unwell I was. Even then people come and ask you to read their script.”

Anurag Kashyap says excessive steroid intake has made him sleepless and restless
Talking more about the unheard side of his life, pertaining to his ill health, Anurag Kashyap then remarked how things haven’t resolved for him yet, as he continues to consume steroids as a part of his treatment, which has rendered him sleepless and becoming excessively restless. He added that all this while, he has been spending his time to watch his own films, so that he doesn’t have to put in that extra strength to think about it. In his words:
“I was like, I am on so many steroids that I am unable to sleep and on top of that I sometimes drink whiskey too to numb it. I can’t watch good films. I am watching same old films of mine, I play those because I am familiar with them, the sound of it makes me feel like I am watching a film. Those films which don’t require you to use your mind. I just don’t have the mind space to watch a serious film, so I am watching those action films. I am in that stage and frame of mind and in the middle of that people come to me. I told them that time has past now. There was a time when I was doing these things, because nobody else was. Now there are enough people.”
Anurag Kashyap claims he isn’t really ready to work on any new project at the moment
In the concluding segment of the interview, Anurag Kashyap then revealed that at the moment, he isn’t in the correct frame of mind and space to bring up any new project. He added how he wishes to prioritise himself over everything now, and finds it necessary to fix himself. He mentioned:
“My first priority is I, me myself. I need to fully fix myself, I am in a much better, healthier place. Just let me be for two years, get my energy level and then I will support again. My cup is half empty, what will I make you drink? I myself am thirsty now.”

When Anurag Kashyap revealed if he would ever think of marrying again
In his personal life, Anurag Kashyap got married twice. He was first married to Arti Bajaj, with whom he had a daughter, Aaliayah. After their divorce, Anurag went onto marry actress, Kalki Koechlin. However, their marriage didn’t last long as well. Interestingly, even after separating from both his ex-spouses, the filmmaker continues to maintain a cordial equation with them. Previously, in an interview on the Young Dumb Podcast, Anurag spoke about his possibility of getting married for a third time, and clearly stated that he isn’t a relationship person at all.
