Cher, 78, calls Cyndi Lauper, 70, a ‘genius singer’ and ‘fabulous person’ during her Hand and Footprint Ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood

Cher honored her ‘dear friend’ Cyndi Lauper with a touching speech at her Hand and Footprint Ceremony, which was held at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Tuesday.

The 78-year-old pop diva fondly recalled the time she first sang her hit If I Could Turn Back Time with the 70-year-old Brooklyn-born belter in 2002 for VH1 Divas Las Vegas.

‘I’m singing it and I’m really feeling good about myself, and she comes out and blows me away. And we’ve been friends ever since,’ Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) gushed at the podium – according to NBC LA.

‘Like there are singers. I’m a pretty good singer. Cyndi is a great singer. She’s a genius singer. Okay? She is and she’s a fabulous person and she’s talented.’

The DJ Play a Christmas Song hitmaker added: ‘I love her, and she’s a wonderful, wonderful, crazy, crazy person.’

Cher noted what a ‘great job’ Cyndi – whom she affectionately called ‘Cyn’ – did backstage while they practiced putting their feet and hands in cement ahead of the ceremony: ‘I was terrible.’

The SoCal native – who’s only a Tony away from elite EGOT status – had just flown ‘home in the middle of the night’ in order to be there for Lauper – who’s only an Oscar away from elite EGOT status.

Also honoring The Horror of Dolores Roach actress on Tuesday was fellow Brooklyn-born pop star Bebe Rexha, who excitedly recalled dancing to her music as a child while growing up.

The 34-year-old Grammy nominee eagerly Instastoried a snap of the trio captioned: ‘Icons only.’

The talented trio of LGBTQIA activists appeared to be following an all-black dress code for the festivities.

‘The fact that Bebe and Cher came to help me [motions to her heart],’ Cyndi (born Cynthia) gushed of the ‘thrill.’

‘I can’t really listen to what they say because then I start crying and I have to call for my make-up artist, but anyway I just want to say thank you. It’s really a surreal moment because you know I love glamour and I love Hollywood, come on! Thank you, thank you so much.’

Lauper flaunted maximum cleavage in a zip-up bustier beneath a blazer featuring a white doily-style rigid collar and Capri pants selected by her stylist Nikki. 

After the Gonna Be You singer planted her platform cha-cha heels into the wet cement, she gushed: ‘Oh my feet look small! That’s good… they’re not.’

Hairstylist Mischa Golebiewski coiffed Cyndi’s Marilyn-style locks and make-up artist Nafra Gonzalez defined her Dietrich-style brows and applied her red pout.

Lauper has always had a distinctive look with a variety of hair colors, styles, and eccentric clothing on top of her impressive four-octave soprano pipes.

The Kinky Boots composer – who gets 25.7M monthly listeners on Spotify – has sold over 50M records worldwide during her four-decade career with Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits like Time After Time, She Bop, and True Colors.

Missing from Cyndi’s side was her husband of 32 years – God Is a Bullet actor David Thornton – who she met in 1991 on the set of Ed Bianchi’s Miami Beach thriller Off and Running.

Alison Ellwood’s critically-acclaimed rock-doc about Lauper – Let the Canary Sing – premieres on Paramount+ Monday in the States and Tuesday in the UK.

It features interviews from the eighties icon, Patti LaBelle, Boy George, and Billy Porter.

Cyndi is next scheduled to perform on June 29 at England’s Glastonbury Festival, which happens near Pilton in Somerset.

Lauper will then kick off her 23-date Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour on October 18 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, QC.
