Swara Bhasker is one of the most talented and versatile actresses in Bollywood. She is one of the few actors, who has always been outspoken about her opinions on different issues like politics and industry trends. However, being honest about her views brought several professional setbacks for the actress. In a recent interview with Connect Cine, Swara said that staying outspoken has cost her work and film opportunities.
Swara Bhasker maintains that it was her decision not to stay silent
Bollywood actors are public figures, and the media and fans scrutinize each of their statements. When actors maintain a neutral image, it can also help increase their career longevity. However, Swara has often been vocal about her opinions, and her straightforwardness has usually led to her professional setbacks. She said:
“I don’t want to act like I am a victim. I chose this path. I decided that I would be vocal and put forth my opinion on issues. I could’ve chosen to stay silent. There was no need for me to write an open letter, expressing my discontent on the Johar scene in Padmaavat. Mujhe koi zarurat nahin thi.”

Swara Bhasker mentions she would feel suffocated if she did not express her true self
Swara has the choice to stay silent on different issues, but it’s her conscious decision to speak up. She revealed her wish to share her opinion and remain true to herself and mentioned that otherwise she would feel suffocated. Swara said that people can complain or hate her. But, even her haters cannot say that she is a liar, fake, or pretending to be someone else. The Veere Di Wedding actress added that her opinion wouldn’t change according to her discussions with other people.
Swara Bhasker reveals that her political opinions impacted her professional career
Swara has often expressed her political opinions clearly, which has caused a lot of trolling and harassment. Irrespective of these challenges, she continued to speak up and stressed her need to stay true to her beliefs. She admitted that her opinions impacted her career. In her words:
“There is a cost to not getting so many acting projects, including financial and emotional. There is a reputational anxiety. I am tagged as a controversial actor. Directors, producers, and distributors start speaking ill of you. Aapki ek image ban jati hai. It’s not that it doesn’t worry me but I have managed to stay afloat but the thing that really hurts me is that I didn’t have my fill of the thing I love the most — acting.”

Swara recounts an incident when her now-husband advised her to speak less and focus on her acting
Swara married her partner and politician, Fahad Ahmad, in 2023. The couple welcomed their baby girl, Raabiyaa, on September 23, 2023. The Prem Ratan Dhan Payo actress recounted a heartwarming incident when her husband, Fahad Ahmed, attended the screening of her last film, Jahaan Chaar Yaar when they were dating. Despite the character being opposite to her authentic self, she acted well, and Fahad acknowledged and appreciated her sacrifice. He told Swara she should focus on acting and speak less. Swara recalled how she felt touched and seen during that moment.
