Halle Berry carries torch in official Paris 2024 Olympic ceremony in Cannes

Halle Berry is getting into the Olympic spirit just over a month out from the major sporting event.

The Oscar-winning American actress took part in the torch relay ceremony in Cannes this week on Tuesday, ahead of Paris 2024.

Berry commenced proceedings by lighting the historic torch on the red steps of the Palais des Festivals, which is also where the highly-esteemed Cannes Film Festival was held last month.

The actress wore an all-white sportswear ensemble with orange detailing, which is the official uniform for the Olympic Relay of the Flame, and aviator sunglasses as she posed for photos with the torch.

She stood alongside Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux, who matched Berry in the all-white relay uniform.

Berry proceeded to carry the torch as she walked down part of the famous Cannes promenade the Croisette.

The streets were filled with fans and Berry waved to fans as she walked with the torch before passing it onto another relay member.

Berry was among many other high-profile names at the official Olympic event.

Prince Albert II, the Prince of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene of Monaco each took a turn at carrying the torch. The pair walked hand-in-hand and waved at fans as they walked past.

Princess Charlene’s involvement in the event is especially poignant, as she herself is a former Olympic swimmer. She swam for South Africa at Sydney 2000, where she placed sixth in the 200 metre backstroke event.

Berry’s appearance in France comes weeks after she made a stand for menopause support during a rally outside the US Capitol.

“I’m in menopause, OK?” Berry yelled, per Associated Press.

“The shame has to be taken out of menopause. We have to talk about this very normal part of our life that happens. Our doctors can’t even say the word to us, let alone walk us through the journey.”

The Hollywood actor has been open about the painful symptoms that she has experience from perimenopause and is determined to remove the stigma from the common women’s health experience.
