Nana Patekar is a famous and influential actor in Indian Cinema. He plays complex characters, has an impactful screen presence, and has a straightforward nature. Nana Patekar began his career in 1978, and from then on, he has worked on various projects and with several famous actors. The Welcome actor is known to have a short temper similar to the late actor, Rishi Kapoor. Nana Patekar recently sat down for an interview with The Lallantop and shared his experience working with Rishi Kapoor.
Nana Patekar shares that Rishi Kapoor used to lose his cool while shooting
Nana Patekar got to work with late Rishi Kapoor in the film, Hum Dono in 1995. Given the actors’ short temper, Nana shared that working with Rishi Kapoor was difficult and Rishi used to abuse Nana while working. He was quoted as saying:
“He (Rishi Kapoor) would get angry very quickly.”

Nana reveals that Rishi Kapoor did not like giving more than one take
Nana Patekar shared another instance, recalling that Rishi Kapoor lost his temper whenever Rishi had to give another take. The Raajneeti actor added that Rishi Kapoor had a strong personality. As a result, he often refused to provide retakes and became visibly agitated. Recalling an incident, he shared:
“I once asked him to give it another shot, as the first one was terrible. He said, ‘Who is the director here? Shafi, or you? Hatao yaar isko. ‘He gave the second take, which was also bad. I told him, ‘Chintu ye bakwaas hai,’ and he then started abusing me. Itni gandi gaaliyan! By the fifth take, he was like, ‘Now I will hit you!’ but that was the best take! That was the take that made it into the film.”
Nana Patekar and Rishi Kapoor became friends off- screen
After the on-set tensions, Nana Patekar and Rishi Kapoor maintained a friendship in their personal lives. Nana further revealed that he used to have a lot of conversations when Rishi Kapoor was getting his cancer treatment. Nana had earlier recalled that Rishi once said to him “You are an OK actor, but amazing chef.” At that time, they used to talk a lot about meaningful things that strengthened their friendship. For the unversed, Rishi Kapoor passed away in 2020 due to cancer.
