The Notebook Star Gena Rowlands Has Alzheimers Like Character

Gena Rowlands is dwelling with Alzheimer’s sickness.

A four-time Emmy winner and two-time Golden World winner, Gena is a screen icon beloved by generations of fans. 

She’s possibly most effective acknowledged by young audiences for participating in older Allie in the romance movie The Notebook.

And that’s wherever this tale usually takes an ironic turn.

Gena Rowlands’ Alzheimer’s Analysis & How She’s Carrying out

Gena Rowlands’ son Nick Cassavetes shared the news of his mother’s affliction in a new interview with Amusement Weekly. 

Nick, who directed his mom in 2004’s The Notebook, claimed Rowlands is “in whole dementia.” 

The diagnosis is fairly surreal, specified that Gena performed a female with dementia  in the beloved movie. She played the more mature model of Rachel McAdams’ Allie, with James Garner and Ryan Gosling starring as the older and more youthful version of her really like desire, Noah.

“I got my mother to play more mature Allie, and we used a whole lot of time conversing about Alzheimer’s and seeking to be genuine with it, and now, for the previous 5 a long time, she’s had Alzheimer’s,” Cassavetes stated. “She’s in complete dementia. And it is so crazy — we lived it, she acted it, and now it is on us.”

Unfortunately, as it turns out, the illness operates in the household.

Gena’s Lifelong Fight With Alzheimer’s

Gena Rowlands’ mom, the actress Lady Rowlands, also experienced Alzheimer’s disease. When advertising and marketing “The Notebook”  in 2004, Rowlands informed O magazine that she channeled her mom whilst taking part in Allie.

“This last 1 — ‘The Notebook,’ primarily based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks — was significantly tricky for the reason that I enjoy a character who has Alzheimer’s,” Rowlands instructed the publication at the time. “I went by means of that with my mother, and if Nick hadn’t directed the film, I don’t imagine I would have absent for it — it’s just way too tricky. It was a difficult but great motion picture.”
