Alistair Darling, the previous Labour MP who served as chancellor throughout the 2008 monetary disaster, has died aged 70.

An announcement issued on behalf of the politician’s household stated: ‘The demise of Alistair Darling, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer and long-serving member of the Labour cupboard, was introduced in Edinburgh at the moment.

‘Mr Darling, the much-loved husband of Margaret and beloved father of Calum and Anna, died after a brief spell in Western Basic Hospital below the fantastic care of the most cancers group.’
